A day in the life of the Davpack Blogger
8.29am: Arrives fresh and ready for a hard day’s work.
8.30-8.45am: Makes cup of tea; analyses previous night’s football/soap/reality tv with colleagues, makes way to desk.
8.45-9.30am: Stares blankly at computer screen seeking inspiration. Writes the words ‘cardboard boxes’. Stares at screen some more. Deletes ‘cardboard boxes’ and writes ‘polythene bags’.
9.30am: Gets call from MD; is informed that enquiries have been made by customers concerning documents enclosed envelopes and that some information is required about them on the blog.
9.31am: Deletes ‘polythene bags’ and writes ‘documents enclosed envelopes’.
9.32-10.15am: Begins extensive research into the history, uses and manufacture of documents enclosed wallets.
10.15-10.30am: Tea break.
10.30-11.58am: Continues research. Realises there is nothing even remotely interesting or useful said on the entire internet about document enclosed wallets. Anywhere.
11.59am: Sales Director pops head through door and asks for lunchtime cover in Sales office.
12.00-1.30pm: Works in Sales; sells several postal boxes, some plastic sheeting and even a heat sealer, but no document wallets. Stomach rumbles.
2.00-2.10pm: Writes ‘Document enclosed envelopes appeared from nowhere on a warm summer day in Hartlepool in the early 1960s’. Deletes it. Writes ‘Document enclosed envelopes have no known history’. Deletes it. Writes ‘Waterproof documents enclosed wallets are a great way of making important paperwork readily identifiable and accessible on parcels’. Deletes it.
2.10-2.30pm: Stares at screen some more.
2.30-4.30pm: Writes 42 more opening lines for intended blog, none of which lead to a second sentence.
4.30-4.50pm: With time rapidly running out, makes up article which describes in detail how the idea for documents enclosed wallets came in a dream to an unemployed Yorkshire miner and how his life and the world of postal packaging were transformed forever. Sends to MD. Waits.
4.58pm: Gets call from MD. Is congratulated on an interesting and informative piece of writing and is given the rest of the day off.
4.59pm: Goes home.
