Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
If your Latin is a little rusty, let me remind you that the title to this blog comes from the work of Roman poet Juvenal and literally translates as something like ‘who will guard the guards themselves?’, ie who will protect us from those who are meant to be protecting us?
I don’t think that Juvenal was in the packaging supplies business – although we know very little about his life, so we can’t totally rule it out – but that phrase could apply to some of the uses of edge and corner protectors.
For example, if you’ve got a large cardboard box on a pallet, you’d usually secure it with some plastic strapping. But as you tighten the strapping, you run the risk of it cutting into the box and damaging the contents. To stop that happening, you’d put in some plastic edge protection for the strapping to lie against.
Reliable protection for all your products
Of course, protecting against other packaging is just one facet of edge and corner protection; it’s also widely used for guarding the most vulnerable parts of furniture, doors, picture frames and so on against the inevitable knocks and bumps they’re likely to receive when in transit. With a wide selection of plastic and cardboard edge protectors and sturdy plastic corner protectors available immediately from stock, we’re sure to be able to provide the protection you need when you need it.
We’ve recently introduced a new product to the range, one that I think is a very clever idea, and that’s cardboard edge protectors on a roll. You get a 100-metre roll which is either unslotted, for standard edge protection, or slotted, which means it can be easily used on curved objects such as round tables or for going round sharp corners.
The ultimate in edge and corner protection?
If you take a look at the Edge & Corner Protection section of the Davpack website, you’ll find alongside our cardboard and plastic products something called Nomapack, which not only provides the ultimate in foam edge protection, but also has an ‘O’ profile which is perfect for tubes and pipes etc. Nomapack is very light weight, so won’t be adding to your transportation costs. It’s also padded, wear resistant and impervious to such potential problems as moisture, water, temperature, organic acids, bases, alkaline, alcohol, oil, fuel or organic solvents.
For practical advice on which of our edge and corner protectors will be the best for your application, our Sales team is available on 0844 800 9844 and will be happy to answer your questions.
