Kanban shelving containing 70 shelf trays with sloping shelves to allow easier access to the shelf trays. Combining tilt bin storage with Kanban shelving can lead to much faster operations, as the bins are easier to access than if they are flat. There is also a reduced risk of running out of parts or components needed for production. Toyota developed the concept of Kanban in the 1950s as a way of quickly identifying when bins containing parts or components for production need removal or replenishment.
