Do I need a 4D or 4DV container?
Our 4D range of plywood boxes (ANNT product codes) are suitable for transporting goods which are held in a certified container.
The container is dependant on the dangerous goods being transported, for example flammable liquids. The specific regulations are quite complex, however you can find more information on the requirements for this type of certification here. The UN 4D designation is a legal certification whereby the person shipping states that the entire package, not just the plywood container, meets all provisions of the United Nations 4D standard.
Our 4DV range (ANNS product codes) are suitable for use when the box contains dangerous goods which are held in an uncertified container.
An example of this would be a liquid which is held in an uncertified bottle, within this certified plywood box. Because there is less certified protection, the risk of contamination is higher and therefore a 4DV notice is given. The 'V' highlights the box can contain items held from a dangerous goods list within an uncertified inner container, alerting everyone involved in the shipping process that the material is potentially harmful and extra care must be given. The United Nations recommendation is to performance test these types of combination packages vigorously to ensure they are fully suitable.

For maximum product protection, use vermiculite to provide inner packaging protection during transit and help fill up any void areas. To fulfil the exporting requirements, ensure the total pack weight does not exceed the specified export allowance.
As plywood is exempt from international phytosanitary regulations, no nail boxes can be shipped to most destinations without restriction.
