How Your Order Will Be Sent and What We Are Doing to Become More Eco-Friendly
With the launch of our new eco-range at Davpack we’re looking within our business to see how we can make improvements to our processes and increase our eco-credentials.
Outer Box
Currently, the standard way for us to send out our parcels is in a cardboard box. Cardboard is one of the most environmentally friendly products around as it is one of the most widely recycled materials around, is plastic free and here at Davpack our cardboard is made from at least 75% recycled material. We’re also looking at increasing the range of sizes of boxes that we use for dispatching our products so that we can reduce that amount of empty space, so that we use less material and fuel per order.
Tape
Currently we seal our boxes with standard polypropylene tape which has our logo printed on it. Unfortunately, this tape isn’t recyclable and needs to be removed from cardboard before being recycled in most cases. We will not reorder this plastic tape, and instead we shall be using self-adhesive Kraft paper tape on our orders. This paper tape can be recycled with our cardboard boxes which is a more eco-friendly solution.
Products Protected in Plastic
Here at Davpack we have a huge range of products from many sources and some of them come wrapped in plastic, often to keep them hygienic, prevent them from deteriorating and generally protecting the products from dirt, dust and moisture. We’re assessing these products and we are working with our suppliers to replace, for example a plastic bag with a cardboard box, which is exactly what we’ve done with our eco-friendly loose fill. Due to the complexity of this, this will be a work in progress and will take some time until we have replaced unnecessary plastic in our supply chain.
Pallet Wrap & Strapping
Currently when sending pallets, we wrap them in stretch film which increases their stability and keeps any boxes or products firmly attached to their base. There are no obvious eco-alternatives for stretch film, but companies who receive pallets typically have warehouses with their own recycling in place for plastics. Therefore where we are using plastic in these instances we anticipate that the materials will be dealt with responsibly. Generally, we do no dispatch pallets to residential addresses, where they may not be facilities for recycling or alternatives to landfill.
A small amount of plastic strapping is used in our supply chain, mainly for bundling. This uses much less material than wrapping or bagging and comes from recycled sources wherever possible. Many destination warehouses and businesses will have facilities to handle this waste. The individual boxes themselves are normally free from plastic, and so the end user is able to fully recycle them.
Whilst we realise, we still have some way to go to improve our packaging processes we hope that you understand how much work and effort we are undertaking to promote eco-packaging, improve recycling and reduce landfill waste. Some of these changes can’t happen overnight, but you can be assured that we are working on making these improvements.
