Making The Switch To Eco Tape
Increasing the eco-friendliness of our orders is something that’s on the mind of many eCommerce sellers today. Although many things can be done to increase the eco-friendliness of our parcels, one of the easiest and quickest ways is to ditch the plastic tape and make the change to paper eco tape.
Paper eco tape replaces the plastic film with a paper backing to hold the adhesive. On top of being made from more sustainable material, making the switch to eco paper tape allows you to cut down another piece of plastic from your packaging. If you’re a busy business sending out many orders a day that can add up to quite a bit of plastic being removed from your packaging!
Another benefit of using paper tape instead of plastic tape is that it makes recycling cardboard boxes much easier. Usually, plastic tape would either need to be removed from cardboard prior to being put in the recycling or removed during the process itself and disposed of. Paper tape on the other hand can be recycled alongside the cardboard boxes that it’s attached to so there is no reason to remove it or dispose of it separately.
There are generally two main types of paper eco tape out there, with the first being self-adhesive paper tape and the second being gummed paper tape. Each type differs in construction and application and has its own strengths.
Self-adhesive paper tape acts similar to traditional tape and can be applied straight from the roll. It can also be used with standard tape dispensers, so you won’t need to invest in new tape dispensers when you make the change to paper tape.
Gummed paper tape has an adhesive that is activated by water before being applied. This requires specific dispensers to be used but once it is applied it creates a strong sealing bond as the adhesive soaks into the cardboard that it is applied to which also gives your parcels a tamper-evident seal.
Whichever type of eco tape you choose, using paper tape is a quick and easy way to improve the environmental friendliness of your packaging by cutting down on plastic waste and increasing the ease of recycling. Increasing the environmental friendliness of your packaging doesn’t have to stop at tape, with our excellent range of eco packaging covering cardboard boxes, postal packaging, protective packaging and more!
