Plastic Packaging Tax FAQs Answered
From April 2022, a new tax will be added to all products that are not composed of at least 30% recycled plastic. The charges include all packaging that is manufactured or imported into the United Kingdom. The Government has defined the types of packaging that will be taxed as products that have plastic as their main component, or where plastic is the heaviest element within the object's structure. The reason behind the creation of this tax was to persuade companies to incorporate less plastic into their products and increase levels of recycling and collection of plastic waste. In hopes to divert it from landfills, incineration, or export and create a more environmentally friendly industry.
We have recently released two blogs regarding this tax: one to explain which products are exempt from the tax and how much the charge will be. You can access that page here. The other article goes more in-depth with commonly asked questions, with a total of 10 answered in the blog. You can read the infographic below to find Davpack's responses to the more popular queries, or check out the longer blog by clicking here.

The current issue with plastic packaging is huge volumes of it are made and sent out to businesses every day. What's more, it can take up to 1,000 years to degrade naturally. Plastics and microplastics end up in the oceans, rivers and lakes, wildlife can eat packaging parts and the substance ruins cities by being littered through streets. The harmful material causes pollution, kills animals, and the production of it uses up a high amount of energy. All of this contributes to ruining the Earth, its climate, and the Ozone layer. That is why this economical incentive has been created by the Government to lower the manufacturing and shipment of products using the material in an effort to restore our planet.
At Davpack, we want to do what we can to help the environment. We have now started to introduce recycled plastic into our products such as in our bubble wrap packaging. We are working hard to offer our customers more environmentally sound alternatives and we are continuously looking at our ranges to research and replace items that are not eco-friendly. You can find examples of this throughout all our product lines and our incredibly popular eco-packaging range that is made from paper-based products. We hope with our blogs and incorporation of new, eco-conscious materials, we are making this transition of packaging using less plastic easier for companies using us as their supplier. If you need any other help, do not hesitate to contact our customer services team at cs@davpack.co.uk or call 01332 821200.

As well as introducing recycled plastic into our packaging products, Davpack is excited to announce their participation in the donation of over 500,000 trees to the Eden Reforestation Project (ERP). We have been working closely with our sister companies of the TAKKT AG Group to increase the donations by planting one tree with every order received at Davpack. for ERP. All of which assists in the reduction of CO2 emissions, stormwater runoff and erosion, alongside restoring wildlife habitats and improving overall health of the planet.
